Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, sign-in credentials and account identifiers when you register directly or use Google sign-in.
- Author and book information: the book details, author biography, cover image, retailer links, ISBN, search settings and other content you submit.
- Search information: the genres, keywords, titles or authors you enter when using Find My Next Book.
- Support information: your contact details and anything you include when you contact us.
- Technical information: security, diagnostic and basic request information needed to operate and protect the service.
How and why we use your information
- Providing the service: creating and managing accounts, publishing book pages, displaying retailer links and processing searches. Our legal basis is performance of our contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering one.
- Improving book information: when you request it, looking up covers and details using ISBNs, retailer links and public book catalogues. Our legal basis is performance of our contract with you.
- AI writing assistance: when an author chooses “Write with AI”, sending the supplied book title, author, genre and synopsis to our AI service to suggest search copy. Our legal basis is performance of our contract with you.
- Security and reliability: preventing misuse, diagnosing faults and protecting accounts. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a safe and reliable service.
- Support and legal compliance: responding to enquiries and keeping records where the law requires it. Our legal bases are legitimate interests and legal obligation.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share information with
- Hosting and database providers that store and process service data for us.
- Google if you choose Google sign-in, and Google Books when a book or reader search uses its catalogue.
- Open Library when book details or reader search results are requested from its public catalogue.
- AI service providers when an author expressly requests AI-generated search suggestions.
- Book retailers when you follow a buy or preview link. Their own privacy policies apply after you leave our site.
- Paddle when you buy a subscription. Paddle.com is our online reseller and the Merchant of Record for all orders: it processes card and billing details, handles customer service inquiries and returns, and covers tax and invoicing, under its own privacy terms. We do not store full card numbers.
- Professional advisers, buyers of our business and public authorities where reasonably necessary or required by law.
Public book pages
Published book pages are public and may be indexed by search engines. Do not submit private personal information in a book description, author biography or other public field. Removing or unpublishing a page does not guarantee immediate removal from a search engine's cached results.
International transfers
Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual protections.
How long we keep information
We keep account and book information while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards where needed for recovery, disputes, security or legal obligations. Public book pages may be hidden when a trial or subscription ends. Support and legal records are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for their purpose.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict your personal information, object to certain processing, and receive a portable copy. Where processing depends on consent, you may withdraw it.
To exercise your rights, email info@findmybook.org. We normally respond within one month. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Security and storage on your device
We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted connections and access controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
We use essential browser storage and similar technologies to keep users signed in and operate the service. We do not currently use advertising cookies. If we introduce non-essential analytics or marketing cookies, we will update this policy and request consent where required.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows when this version was last updated.
